iLs Focus Home Listening Program
There are now sound-based solutions that are clinically successful at addressing learning, attention, neurodevelopmental, and sensory processing issues. They are completely non-invasive and fun—and they can be used in the comfort of your home.
At the Vestibule, we are certified providers of the Focus™ Home Listening Program from Integrated Listening Systems (iLs)—a multi-sensory program for improving brain function that uses specially treated music in conjunction with exercises for balance, core strength, fine motor control, visual tracking and hand-eye coordination. The program can be customized for all ages and skill levels for use in your home, school or clinic.
iLs Focus has a global effect on the brain and central nervous system, influencing the following systems and their function: auditory, visual, vestibular (balance and coordination), motor, cognitive (thinking and reasoning) and emotional. As a result, it is successfully applied to a wide variety of conditions:
-
Learning – Building the skills which enable success in school: attention, reading, visual and auditory processing, memory, self-expression, social skills
-
Performance Optimization – Improving processing speed and timing (athletics), creativity and imagination (arts and business), self–esteem and self-confidence (personal development)
-
Neuro-Developmental – Achieving therapeutic goals related to emotional and behavioral regulation, sensory processing, communication and social skills; examples: Autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy
-
Psychological/Emotional – Improving attention, emotional balance and vitality
-
Rehabilitation – Recovering energy and skills related to language, movement and cognitive function (memory, organization, planning) after a stroke or head injury
How it works
The Focus program provides simultaneous multi-sensory input to help develop new and reinforce existing pathways governing organization of the body and brain function.
Therapeutic music is delivered via special bone conduction headphones, providing auditory input to the brain and sensory input to the body. Movement activities, customizable for all levels, provide additional sensory and motor input for body organization.
Success with the program depends on both consistency of use and duration. A typical listening session is either 60 or 30 minutes, depending on the target goals and specific needs of the listener. We recommend at least three, but no more than five, listening sessions per week, with a commitment of several months or years to reach the target goals.
To keep you on track, and support you or your child through the neurological changes that occur with the program, we provide ongoing, consistent support that includes:
-
A thorough intake of client's history, along with a detailed listening assessment
-
Training on use of the equipment and best practices for home use
-
Ongoing supervision and evaluation during the program
-
Suggestions for monitoring or adapting the program for the best results and to fit your needs
-
Re-assessment re-evaluation at target intervals
-
Recommendations for next steps and/or supplemental services that will help you or you child meet your goals
